Rikon convention is our flagship event and the project we’ve been giving ourselves to fully for thirteen years now. Traditionally taking place on the first or second weekend of October, Rikon draws in a varied crowd, from elementary school kids (free entrance if you’re under 14 years of age!) to senior citizens, and we’re very happy and proud there’s always something for each and every one of them.
We’ve got lectures by both experts and laypersons on anything from current and classic genre authors to engineering to exobiology, presenting complex scientific or social issues in an entertaining and interesting way, and our literary guests of honor are always ready with a creative writing workshop or a lecture. We’ve also had panel discussions on anything from advancements in science and technology to using roleplaying games as teaching aids.

Want to learn how to make dragon wings out of papier mache, or turn a simple grocery bag into the coolest geeky accessory in town? Our workshops got you covered.
Think you know all about books, films, series, soundtracks, games and all and sundry manners of geeky things? Prove it on one of our many quizzes.
Our game room is always full, offering everything from D&D to boardgame tournaments – and if you just want to sit down with you friends and play a game (or ten) of Carcassone or Munchkin, go right ahead.
You’re designing a game, be it video or tabletop? We’re more than happy to have you present and playtest it at Rikon. You’re a writer/artist/creative person/organization and want to present your work at Rikon? We’d love to give you a platform.
You like cosplaying? Participate in our contest or just chill in your costume, we won’t mind.
Or maybe you’d just like to have a drink and talk for hours with people you’ve just met about anything – from your favorite authors, newest scientific discoveries, changes to your favorite game’s rules, or that cult film from the Eighties you were certain nobody else has seen? Grab a chair in our lounge area or enjoy fresh air outside the venue.
We do our best to make Rikon as inclusive as possible, offering a wide variety of programs and events, providing our attendees with entertainment, education and a chance to talk and have fun with other geeks – and we hope to provide the same experience to you in 2020!
