This is the first progress report regarding the organization of Eurocon 2020 – Futuricon, to be held in Rijeka, Croatia, on 2–4 October 2020.
The flag is ours!
We have officially taken custody of the ESFS flag. It has safely arrived from Belfast to Rijeka, and we’ll be taking very good care of it for the whole 13 months that we will provide its home. Make sure to follow us on social media for updates on the flag.
Registration is live
If you would like to get your membership for Eurocon 2020 – Futuricon, head on over to futuricon.eu/tickets and check out all the options. Long story short, international fans need to pay with PayPal and then fill out our registration form, while Croatian fans should use a simple wire transfer and then fill out the registration form. All of the details, promotions and prices are on the tickets page.
Programming submissions opening soon
In order to make the organisation process as smooth as possible, we will be opening public programming submission on 1 November 2019, and they will run until 1 March 2020. That means that the complete programme should be out by the end of April 2020, providing ample time for promotion, attracting a wider audience, as well as making inevitable corrections. All programming items will be entered through online forms, including whatever we arrange with our current and future partners. For any questions regarding programming or if you want to partner with us to hold any kind of item or booth and need more information before submissions, do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]
The University of Rijeka
One of our most important local partners in this endeavour is the University of Rijeka. We have been primarily using their locations for our convention for the better part of the last two decades, and we look forward to deepening this bond through the organisation of the Eurocon. No spoilers on the details yet.
Prepare Torpedo Launch Bay 1!
And by Launch Bay 1 we actually mean the original one. The first torpedo was designed and tested in Rijeka, which is why we have decided to have Mr. Robert Whitehead as our Ghost of Honour. A part of the programming will be dedicated to him, his work and everything it has made possible in the meantime. If you have a desire to contribute to this part of the programming, we look forward to your ideas and submissions.
Time is ticking…
There’s 13 months to go to the convention, there’s plenty of time to make it all happen, we just needed a subtitle for this paragraph. Introducing our first guest of honour, the author of the Children of Time series among many other things, the incredible Adrian Tchaikovsky. We look forward to hosting him very much! For all details about his programming items, you’ll have to be patient for a while longer.
Before we invest 100% of our focus into Eurocon 2020, there is something else that’s currently slightly higher on the priority list – Rikon 2019, which will be held 4–6 October 2019. We’re busy taking programming submissions and finalizing the organisation, and fully tackling two conventions at the same time is probably not the best of ideas. This year’s theme is cyberpunk, and our guest of honour is Gareth L. Powell who is undoubtedly going to be an amazing guest with many experiences and stories to share.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming period as we delve deeper into what Rijeka and Futuricon have to offer.
