Cars, planes and automobiles – as well as buses and even boats can get you to Rijeka!
The Rijeka Airport is located on the island of Krk some 30 km away from the city. All the information about the flights can be found on the airport webpage. Plane tickets can be purchased online on the websites of airline companies or in a number of travel agencies. Destinations connected to the Rijeka airport during October currently include Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Köln, London, München, Stockholm, and Stuttgart. New lines get added every year, so we expect more to come by 2020.
In addition to Rijeka’s own airport, nearby airports include Pula, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Trieste, Venice, and Treviso. Zagreb Airport has a shuttle bus route from the airport to Rijeka once per day, and the current schedule may be found here. Alternatively, you may take a bus or a taxi to the Zagreb bus station and take a bus to Rijeka, which depart about once per hour.
Rijeka is connected to larger Croatian and European cities by regular international and national bus lines. The bus station is located in the city centre, on Žabica. All information about the time-table and ticket prices can be found on the Arriva website, FlixBus website or at the agency at the bus station.
We would not recommend trains as a means of transport to Rijeka, unless you love very long train rides and enjoying the scenery along the way. The central railway station is located close to the city centre. The information about train schedules can be found on the Hrvatske željeznice (Croatian Railroads) website or at the information point at the station.
The boat harbour is located in the city centre. Information about the timetable as well as about prices and other information can be found on the Jadrolinija website. It is also possible to purchase tickets online or in person at the Jadrolinija agency located on Rijeka’s waterfront.
